Threads Dance Project: Impressions of Black History

New Dance Theatre, Dance Building
The UGA Department of Dance and Minneapolis-based dance company Threads Dance Project is thrilled to present Impressions of Black History on Saturday, February 22nd at 7:30 p.m. in the New Dance Theatre at the Dance Building on UGA's South Campus. The evening will include excerpts from Karen L. Charles' work Let America Be America inspired by chants of “Make America Great Again.” Through spoken word and dance vignettes, it examines the premise that America has never been great—for all—while highlighting the joys and challenges of “the America that is” and “the America that could be.”

Also presented is Objet de Désir Inaccessible (Unattainable Object of Desire), Charles’ interpretation of Portrait of Madeleine (formerly titled Portrait of a Negress). This work explores racism, feminism, identity, and beauty through research on the artist Marie-Guillemine Benoist, her subject, and their relationship.

Tickets are on sale now at the Performing Arts Center and Tate Center box offices, by phone at 706-542-4400 and online at pac.uga.edu. Tickets will also be available at the door one hour before the performance, however, advance purchase is strongly recommended. Free parking is available in lots adjacent to the UGA Department of Dance or at the South Campus Parking Deck next to the Georgia Center for Continuing Education for a fee.
$8 students/seniors, $25 general admission
