The UGA Department of Dance presents SANKOFA, a performance concert celebrating dance and community performed by UGA Dance Company students. The concert will be held on Thursday and Friday, February 19th and 20th at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, February 21st at 2:30 p.m. in the Dance Theatre at the Dance Building on Green Street off of Sanford Drive. This concert remembers and embraces the shared passion and the care towards a common goal, and the emotional release it brings as an artist.

The Ballroom Performance Group (BPG) is a student dance company at the University of Georgia. The group promotes an appreciation of ballroom dance through performances on campus and around the community. The company was founded in 1991 by Dr. Mark Wheeler. BPG hosts its annual showcase, “Ballroom Magic,” the second semester of each school year. The show consists of between 20 to 25 choreographed pieces in Smooth and Latin dancing, along with guest performances. The majority of pieces in “Ballroom Magic” are choreographed for and premiered at the show.

The UGA Department of Dance Student Choreography Concert is both a Senior Exit and Emerging Choreographers Showcase, choreographed and produced by the students with faculty and staff guidance and mentorship. Encompassing various music genres and styles of dance, the show has a vast spectrum of creativity and something for every audience member to enjoy!

As a highlight of their Dance 2.0 Giving Campaign, the Department of Dance was excited to unveil the newly named Victor and Annette Riden Family Theatre Lobby this spring to celebrate the recently completed renovations and honor the couple whose influence inspired the gift that made it happen. 

“This transformational campaign is going to address many of our needs, but primarily we want to increase the program’s impact and relevance both within the dance community, across campus and beyond,” said Rebecca Gose, Department Head.
